LIBRARY-A TREASURE HOUSE OF KNOWLEDGE :

Our college library has grown from a small collection of a few hundred books from the inception of the college in 1973, to a collection in excess of 50,000(UG & PG) collection in forty nine years of establishment of college. Library has always functioned under the guidance of a qualified librarian. It not only grew collection-wise but also area-wise. For a few years, the library was housed in a single room where books were stored in cupboards. As it started growing area-wise, there was an exponential growth in the collection of documents as more subjects were introduced as optional in the academic curriculum. The library in its early years had books catering to the needs of students of Economics, Political Science and Public Administration of Arts faculty, Botany, Zoology and Chemistry of science faculty and also to students of Commerce faculty which had just one section then. There was a common library for Junior, Degree and PG College till the college was bifurcated in the year 1992. The PG Library was moved into a separate block in 1996.

The library collection, over a period of years, has catered to various needs of the clientele viz., students, staff, members and others. The library has always catered to the special needs of the faculty who were involved in research work. The collection is primarily aimed to meet the demand of the curriculum. Some important reference books are provided to substitute the classroom teaching and thus help the students to prepare and secure seats in PG courses. Books for competitive exams, Personality development and career guidance are also provided.

Apart from the general textbooks, the library has a varied collection of informative, educative and interesting reference books, such as, general and subject encyclopedias viz., “The New Encyclopedia Britannica, McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science and Technology, international Encyclopedia of the social Sciences and various other subjects’ encyclopedias which are referred to by the students for more information. Dictionaries, general as well as subject, are consulted frequently by the students. Books are procured for competitive examinations and career development also. Library is fully automated using NEWGENLIB Software (Version 3.2). Automation was done in the year 2005. The library database is created and updated in NGL Software. Barcodes for new books and library cards are done in the library.
